Nokia 5800XM Firmware (v40.0.005) via Phone Itself (FOTA) Firmware On The Air

With this new upgrade, we have a similar home screen like that of Nokia 5530. There is the much awaited kinetic scrolling but unfortunately not in the main menu, application menu and the browser which i feel are the main portions where we need kinetic scrolling. Anyways, it is better to have something than nothing at all. As we know with every upgrade, there is a significant touch response and overall performance improvements. Some of the phone menu icons have been changed. On the UI part, there are some additions which include new screen alarm, slide to unlock during call, new screen incoming call when the phone in locked. You also have an updated Real Player and Ovi Contacts installed. Another major change is theremoval of the alphanumeric keypad in the landscape mode. Now on moving the phone, the portrait mode alphanumeric keypad changes to the full qwerty keypad.

Updating 5800 firmware via FOTA:

Make sure you have wireless broadband service before doing this because if you are using 3G/GPRS connection via talk plan from your network provider, it will cost you quite a lot. Follow simple instructions below to complete the firmware update.

After this step, your phone will restart. When the phone boots up, you can see white screen with download progress bar. What you have to do now is just simply wait for the phone to download the firmware and it will restart once again after the downloading process completed. Welcome to new Nokia 5800XM Firmware (v40.0.005) and enjoy.

  2. Yes it will cost you a lot if using normal call plan service. Thats why I suggest they must have wireless broadband service before update via FOTA.
